CCW Las Vegas process

These are the steps you must go through in order to obtain your Nevada CCW Permit. Before you begin the process, please make certain you meet the minimum requirements.

Step 1: Complete the 8-hour certified basic firearms training class (this is the class our school offers).

Step 2: Target qualify with any hand gun. This is done during the class. If you do not own a hand gun yet, you can rent one at our class for $25 (cash only, includes gun and ammo). As of 10/1/2013 you only need to qualify with one gun. This permits you to carry any hand gun.

GUN QUALIFICATION CHANGE AS OF 10/1/2013 - You no longer have to qualify with a specific hand gun. You no longer have to qualify with both a semi-auto and revolver. You only have to qualify with one hand gun. You are then permitted to carry any hand gun you like. The caliber and type (semi-auto or revolver) are irrelevant!

Step 3: You must submit the CCW application to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department's CCW detail (located at 400 Martin Luther King Building C) in person. They will take your picture and take your fingerprinfts. We will give you a completed and stamped application upon completing the course. As of March 2020 you may also apply onilne at the LVMPD web site (you will be given an appointment date to show up for fingerprinting and photos).

Step 4: Pay the application fee over the counter at the LVMPD office. The application fee can be paid via cash, credit card, money order. No personal checks. If you apply online with LVMPD you can pay the fee online with a credit card.

Step 5: If approved, your Nevada CCW permit will arrive in the mail.

Term: Your CCW permit is valid for 5 years from issue date.

Out-of-State Residents: If you are not a resident of Nevada, you must apply for a NV CCW permit with the LVMPD as our instructor is licensed by Clark County. Your permit will be valid for 5 years. Your home state address will be printed on the back side of the permit.

Timeframe: By law, the LVMPD has 120 days to process your application. The major delay being the criminal background checks which are processed by the FBI.

Application Fee: The LVMPD charges $100.25 to process your application ($63.25 for renewals). Late fee is $20 if you submit your renewal application after the expiration date on your current CCW. The application fee can be paid via cash, credit card, money order. No personal checks.
